Reports to: Logistics Manager
Job Goal:
The Finishing Supervisor oversees the operations of both the Trim and Shipping departments, ensuring that all products are finished and prepared for shipment efficiently, accurately, and in line with safety standards. This position is responsible for managing daily workflows, coordinating team activities, and acting as a backup for the Logistics Manager when necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervision and Leadership:
- Train, coach, and manage employees within the Trim and Shipping departments to achieve optimal productivity.
- Supervise the activities of workers responsible for trimming, finishing, packaging, and shipping.
- Ensure efficient workflow by assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and addressing issues that arise during production.
- Conduct shift start meetings to relay important information regarding schedules, issues from prior shifts, and other operational updates.
- Coordination and Scheduling:
- Prepare work schedules and ensure proper staffing in both departments, including managing time-off requests and approvals.
- Ensure that production output is aligned with shipping schedules and quality standards.
- Act as a liaison between departments such as Quality, Manufacturing, and Production Control to ensure timely deliveries and quality standards.
- Operational Excellence:
- Ensure proper setup and usage of all tools, machinery, and equipment within the Trim and Shipping departments.
- Oversee the accuracy of shipments, ensuring materials match records, manifests, and invoices.
- Monitor the storage and handling of materials, ensuring adherence to company procedures.
- Backup to Logistics Manager:
- Step in as a backup for the Logistics Manager, managing shipping schedules, coordinating with carriers, and addressing any logistical challenges.
- Assist in creating and updating shipping documents, including packing lists and work orders.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing company safety policies and ensuring employees are equipped with the necessary safety gear.
- Conduct inspections to ensure that safety protocols are followed and address any hazards.
- Assist in completing paperwork related to incidents or accidents and notify the Safety Coordinator as necessary.
- Quality Control:
- Work closely with the Quality department to ensure that finished products meet the required specifications before they are shipped.
- Assist in resolving quality issues related to trimmed parts or shipping processes.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Forklift experience.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or shipping environment preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends when necessary.
Working Conditions
- The employee is required to stand, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Exposure to loud noises, fumes, and moving machinery in the workplace.
- Personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves, must be worn in the work area.
- While this position does have an office, most operations will occur outside and within a non temp-controlled environment.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time salaried position. Regular hours may include weekends and overtime as needed to meet production and shipping demands.
